iland’s Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is someone excited about building data pipelines, wrangling data, and optimizing data systems. This person will support our software developers, database architects, and data analysts on data initiatives and will ensure optimal delivery and consistent architecture throughout ongoing projects. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing and influencing the direction of our company’s data architecture aimed at supporting our next generation of products and data initiatives.

This is a full-time remote position, with preference given to candidates in the Houston area, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering - Data.

Responsibilities

• Take an idea from design concept to working implementation that will be deployed to our customers around the world
• Build elegant, clean, bulletproof code that is driven by tests
• Work with the Software Engineering team to ensure architectural and implementation coherence
• Debug issues and develop quick, robust solutions to keep systems running smoothly
• Participate in code reviews to ensure alignment with the architectural approach and to maintain a clean code base
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

The following skills represent the minimum requirements to be considered for this position:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent working experience
• 3+ years of Python experience
• 1+ year(s) of Data Engineering experience
• Strong Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with: Git, CI/CD, Linux
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills is essential
• Flexibility, energy, and ability to work well with others in a team environment

Preferred Skills:

The following skills represent additional proficiencies preferred to be successful in this position:

• Experience with Apache Spark or other DataFrame-like frameworks
• Experience with Apache Cassandra
• Open source project contributions
• GitHub or public-facing source code
• Developer forum (Stack Overflow, etc.) participation
