Airbnb is a mission-driven company dedicated to helping create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. It takes a unified team committed to our core values to achieve this goal. Airbnb's various functions embody the company's innovative spirit and our fast-moving team is committed to leading as a 21st century company.

Airbnb hosts are an essential part of the Airbnb experience. On the Host Recruitment team, our goal is to recruit enough hosts so that we have enough supply to meet the ongoing travel demand. On top of that, we want to ensure all hosts are set up for success throughout their hosting journey.

In order to accomplish this successfully, we need to have a deep understanding of all supply on the Airbnb platform. We are looking for a data scientist who can help the team draw these rigorous insights about our hosts and listings. This can range from building models that segment and categorize our supply, to predicting the likelihood that a prospective user will convert to hosting, to designing experiments that allow us to understand the impact on the marketplace when we make changes to supply, and much more. We want to take a scientific approach to decision-making through rigorous experimentation and insights, and build data products that help drive actions and refine business strategy.

Example Responsibilities:

  • Identify critical business questions around Airbnb supply and create analytical and modeling solutions to drive business decisions and surface opportunities through compelling data stories.
  • Design controlled experiments to enable us to learn how to help our hosting community onboard and be successful.
  • Apply quasi-experimental methods to help quantify the effects of product changes when a typical A/B test is not feasible.
  • Define and evaluate key metrics to understand business trade-offs.
  • Empower the team to answer data questions quickly and easily by building high-quality ground truth data sets.

Qualifications we value:

An ideal candidate should possess a good balance of statistical/technical skills, business acumen, and communication and leadership skills. A driven individual who’s keen to solve hard business problems is desired.

  • 5+ years in industry experience and a Master's degree/PhD in a quantitative field
  • Expert in at least one programming language (Python or R) and proficient in SQL
  • Experience with experimentation, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques
  • Thought leadership in tackling open ended product questions and optimization problems
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments and ability to work smoothly with cross-functional stakeholders
