Q-Telco is the new joint venture between Quantium and Telstra to unlock the full potential of data and AI for Telstra and its customers. We’ll do this by combining our market leading data science and AI capabilities with Telstra’s customer, product and network data assets.

This new partnership will not only provide personalised and data-enabled products and offers for Telstra’s customers, but it will also embed proactive and predictive AI and machine learning across Telstra’s core business.

We’re looking to hire a Lead Data Scientist that can provide technical and commerical leadership in the scoping and delivery of projects, that will drive tangible business business value.

What would I be doing?

Q-Telco is a unique opportunity in the current market, helping to unlock the potential of data and AI for both Telstra and its customers.

Within Q-Telco you will:

  • Work within telecommunications but also new sectors such as mining, agribusiness and supply chain where Telstra has a unique value proposition given its network assets and capability.
  • Work on highly impactful projects that are “firsts” within these industries
  • Scope and deliver solutions both for Telstra and for their industrial customers, helping them automate quicker and make smarter and more accurate decisions right across their value chains, enhancing efficiency, reducing waste and driving down environmental impacts
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to determine objectives / scope of upcoming projects
  • Delivering high quality analytics, from scoping, data quality assessment, data manipulation, method selection, model building, insights generation and visualisation
  • Proactively participate in learning forums and sharing knowledge with wider team
  • Leverage Telstra’s Data Hub to enable enterprise and government customers to securely share and aggregate their data whilst also harnessing Quantium’s big data capabilities.

What skills and experience do I need?

We’re looking to hire a Lead Data Scientist that can provide technical and commerical leadership in the scoping and delivery of projects; so demonstrable experience doing this is paramount.

We know people are not bullet points, but we would expect you to have:

  • A desire to provide technical and commercial leadership, whilst continuing to develop your own skillset
  • A technical degree, such as Actuarial, Maths/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics etc.
  • Experience building predictive models in a commercial environment, ideally GBMs (experience of XGBoost or LightGB is advantageous)
  • Strong technical experience using SQL, Python or R
  • Experience solving commercial problems and generating insights from large customer or transactional data sets
  • Experience delivering analytical solutions in either a consulting or end user business
  • Data Science experience within Supply chain, Mining or Logistics experience would be advantageous (but not essential)
  • Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving skillset
  • Previous leadership experience and strong analytical and technical capability
  • A collaborative style and the ability to work with and positively influence a variety of people across all levels and functions will see you succeed

If you think this could be a fit and you would thrive in our business, we want to hear from you. Please apply and we’ll be in touch to discuss your application.
