We are looking for a savvy Staff Data Engineer to join our team of analytics experts. This individual is a thought leader and is excited about redefining what it means to do Data Engineering. This is a technical role that involves designing changes to the warehouse data model as well as building scalable and efficient processes to populate or modify warehouse data.

A day in the life!  

You will be responsible for the following:   

  • Design, developing and maintaining the data architecture, data models and standards for various Data Integration & Data Warehousing projects in Snowflake, combined with other technologies. 
  • Leading a team of top data engineers to design and implement efficient data pipelines (ETLs) to integrate data from a variety of sources into WellSky Home’s Data Warehouse as well as data model changes that align with warehouse standards and backfill or other warehouse data management processes 
  • Expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. 
  • Develop and execute testing strategies to ensure high quality warehouse data 
  • Developing and maintaining documentation of the data architecture, data flows and data models. 
  • Ownership of technical solutions from design and architecture perspective, ensure the right direction and propose resolution to potential data pipeline-related problems. 
  • Providing technical guidance and support to a vibrant engineering team. Coaching and teaching your teammates how to do great data engineering 
  • Growing the field of data engineering at WellSky through sustained collaboration, teaching and developing our data engineering standards 
  • You will have direct impact on the users of our solutions, mainly doctors, nurses, and others on the front lines of healthcare and community services.   
  • Your hard work will touch the lives of real people and families navigating life and death issues with the support of our solutions.  

 

  

Do you have what it takes? 

You are: 

  • Experienced with problem formulation: You have translated ambiguous business problems to appropriate data projects, activities, and tasks in the platform, engineering, analytics, visualization space in alignment with overall business strategy. 
  • Experienced with data governance: You have interpreted company and regulatory policies on data, established, educated & implemented data governance processes, practices, policies, and guidelines in partnership with business stakeholders and peers. 
  • Experienced in data transformation and integration: You have designed and built highly sustainable and scalable infrastructure required for optimal transformation and integration from a wide variety of data sources using appropriate data integration technologies and tools. 
  • Experienced with data modeling and architecture: You have defined data modeling standards and foundational Architectural best practices, organized complex data from various data sources and built logical and conceptual models and guided the team on physical data models and have taken ownership of data engineering architecture and lead design. 
  • Proficient with code development and testing: You have created proof of concepts, established coding standards, and have built and reviewed the final solution and application design to ensure it meets business, technical, data and compliance requirements. 
  • Knowledgeable on data strategy: You have driven the execution of multiple data projects by identifying business and operational needs, priorities, removing barriers, maintaining performance standards, developing contingency plans, and demonstrating adaptability and embracing continuous learning. You have ensured business needs are met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events. 
  • Able to clearly communicate with the business: You have mature written and verbal communication skills, including gathering diverse viewpoints and proactively seeking feedback from cross functional teams. You can coach and mentor junior and senior data engineers. You can advise managers and directors on technical trade-offs. 

 

Required Experience:  

  • Expert level data architecture skills - a deep understanding of data architecture patterns data warehouse, data lake, data processing, ETL/ELT, and cloud technology capabilities 
  • 6+ years of data architecture experience in designing and delivering ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines using tools like Airflow, HVR or Streamsets 
  • 3+ years of lead data engineer experience leading teams and impactful projects in a high velocity product driven environment. 
  • Deep experience in Data Migration from RDBMS to Snowflake cloud data warehouse 
  • Advanced SQL proficiency working with a variety of relational and non-relational databases ex: SQL Server, PostgreSQL. 
  • Experience working with cloud platform - AWS or GCP  
  • Experience and enjoy working in an Agile environment. 
  • Source control with Git/Git Hub 
  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be a great team player 
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field 

 

Do you stand above the rest? 

 

Preferred Experience:     

  • C# and/or .Net Core API development, or other OO type programming language  
  • Experience with non-relational platforms and tools for large-scale data processing  
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, etc. 
  • Experience with one or more relevant tools like Kafka, HVR, Streamsets. 
  • Leveraging Splunk, Sumo, New Relic, CloudWatch for observability and monitoring 
  • Familiarity and experience with common BI and data visualization tools like Tableau or Sisense 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams in a fast paced, agile environment 

Preferred Certifications:  

    • Bonus Points: Go to the top of the stack if you have Snowflake certification!
