Engineering Manager, ML Infrastructure

At Cohere, our mission is to build machines that understand the world and to make them safely accessible to all. Language is at the crux of this, but it can be difficult and expensive to parse the syntax, semantics, and context that all work together to give words meaning. The Cohere platform provides access to Large Language Models through its APIs that read billions of web pages and learn to understand the meaning, sentiment, and intent of the words we use in a richness never seen before. 
We recently raised our Series B, signed a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud, and we are focused on bringing our technology to market. We will partner with customers so they can build natural language understanding and generation into their products with just a few lines of code.

And we have the technical chops to back it up - Cohere’s CEO, Aidan Gomez, is a co-author of the groundbreaking paper “Attention is all you need”, (over 23k citations) and was previously part of Google Brain. As an Engineering Manager - ML Infrastructure, you will:

• Manage and grow a team from 2 to 5 Software Engineers
• Drive the team responsible for maintaining and scaling the Cohere platform
• Own and manage our GCP cloud infrastructure
• Create and manage highly available infrastructure for data engineering, training pipelines and serving
• Work hand-in-hand with technical leads and experts

You may be a good fit if:

• You have experience managing an infrastructure team
• You have excellent presentation and communication skills; comfortable explaining technical topics to non-technical users or members of other teams
• You have designed and developed large scale production infrastructure 
• You are passionate about recruiting, growing people and teams
• You are passionate about building rapport with your team and you prioritize 1:1s
• You are comfortable with leading multiple projects and adjusting processes quickly when priorities change
• You have experience with GCP or AWS
• (Bonus!) You have experience with Kubernetes or MLOps
