Autonomous Systems Research Lead

The Role:

STR is seeking a Research Lead to join our tight-knit, growing Autonomy team. We design, develop, and demonstrate software to control distributed autonomous robotics. The software ranges from early prototypes to fielded systems and will revolutionize the way that heterogeneous teams of unmanned robotic systems (e.g., drone swarms) assist humans in cooperatively accomplishing shared objectives. The team operates primarily from our state-of-the-art autonomy lab in Woburn, Massachusetts.

We are seeking established research scientists with experience designing and leading Research and Development (R&D) efforts.
Qualifications:

  • MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Experience leading teams in R&D efforts
  • Experience with robotic systems, e.g., small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS/UAS/UAV), Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV), or Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV)
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
  • Ability and willingness to travel for week-long field experiments 1-2 times per quarter and day trips approximately once a month

Even Better:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Demonstrated ability to interface directly with customers and win new R&D work
  • Experience interfacing with autopilots (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot), autonomy frameworks (e.g., ROS), and/or game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine)
  • Experience applying network protocols to communicate efficiently between distributed systems
  • Active Security Clearance
