About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategically-minded data science leader to take complete ownership and drive the data science effort at Whispir. 

We’re seeking someone with generous leadership, scientific & technical skills, who is a strong communicator and is keen to lead a small and dynamic team within Product & Technology.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Data Science you will:

  • Lead a team of data scientists & ML engineers to build a first-class data science capability
  • Mentor & coach data scientists in their chosen career path
  • Engage with external communities and organisations to establish Whispir as a thought leader in data science
  • Evangelise data science & decision engineering to the wider leadership team and other departments
  • Define policies and processes to protect Whispir’s data from ethical, legal and privacy issues
  • Participating as a member of the senior management team, formulating company policy and approving major management changes.
  • Perform literature reviews on research across a range of relevant topics
  • Managing relationships with external researchers or data providers where relevant - e.g. research institutions, industry bodies, government departments.
  • Independently reviewing and assessing business unit initiatives, of a strategic nature, impacting the business.
  • Advise business leaders by providing data-driven strategic direction to identify and address business issues and opportunities.
  • Select, develop and evaluate personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function.
  • Ensuring continuous upskilling of team member's technical and communication skills.
  • Keeping up to date with new approaches and trends in statistical analysis and data visualisation.
  • Additional tasks and assignments as required.

About You

We are ideally looking for motivated candidates with:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and articulate methodologies and results to non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced knowledge of database design, data storage, transformation and maintenance principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical and analytical techniques, and ability to transfer this knowledge to team members.
  • Ability to use the dynamics and value drivers of the business strategy to make decisions about the impact of changes.
  • Ability to work within long-term time frames and anticipate and act on opportunities or problems that are likely to arise.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proven ability to develop corporate infrastructure including policies, procedures and systems.
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills.
