Specialized Bicycle Components is seeking an experienced Data Architect to shape the way we use data now and in the future to drive business value. This role, reporting into our Global Data Leader, will work closely with our data engineering team, our data analysts, technology leaders, and business stakeholders to balance current architectural needs while planning the future of our data systems. With a strong emphasis on governance and standardization, this individual will first need to understand the current state of our systems and the business direction, then develop a vision and roadmap for the future state, and finally drive programs, initiatives, and processes to achieve this vision. While technical ability is required, this role also will be interacting with many leaders throughout the company: the ability to simplify, communicate complex challenges through design thinking, and gain consensus will be a key measure of success. While there will be many projects this role will drive, one of our biggest desires is for this role to teach and mentor around the concept of architecture, and build a collective understanding and language for the entire data team. In this role, you will be exposed to a wide variety of cloud-based best-of-breed technologies and help accelerate the growth of data at a leading brand in the outdoor industry.

How you will make a difference:

  • Provide thought leadership around how we collect, store, use, and purge data
  • Deliver on quick wins while creating vision, goals, strategy, and roadmaps
  • Drive and facilitate discussions using design thinking methodology with business and technical leaders, subject matter experts, analysts, and engineers to define and design information and data in alignment to current and future business objectives
  • Understand and map the current data landscape and define target state data architecture
  • Partner closely with business and technology leaders on a data governance model to ensure data architecture vision can be realized across regions and functions
  • Collaborate with business users to understand data challenges, and translate this understanding into data requirements
  • Provide guidance on industry standard and best practice data models so that data can be extracted from source systems in an efficient and scalable manner
  • Work collaboratively and build relationships with peers, business partners, and third- party consultants; work with others in the Global Technology to solve problems, share knowledge

What You’ll need to win

  • 8+ years of experience in the data analytics or data engineering sphere, including 4+ specifically as a data architect
  • Ability to define a strategic vision and the ability to set the long-term direction of the team and business
  • Proven track record of designing pragmatic data architectures with strong business acumen
  • Familiarity with Enterprise data management and modern data architecture best practices and applying them to a fast moving entrepreneurial company
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to be influential and persuasive with stakeholders
