About the Role 

Our team is growing and we are looking for machine learning R&D experts to join us. We apply machine learning to solve the challenging behavior(prediction and planning) problems, e.g. predicting other road agents’ behaviors, understanding their intent, and planning our own self-driving vehicle in a safe and acceptable manner. In this role, you will help to lead the  development of novel machine learning models, robust and scalable data pipelines, and deployment of these models on our self-driving vehicles.  As a leader, you will help set the long term technical direction of behavior decision making at Nuro, and cultivate and mentor a passionate team of machine learning researchers.

About the Work

• Develop machine learning models and systems to make planning decisions that can reason about highly interactive and challenging scenarios.  
• Set the technical direction of a small group of researchers and engineers focused on using machine learning to solve problems in learned planning for autonomous systems.
• Collaborate closely with engineers across behavior, perception, research, mapping and localization, infrastructure, etc., and work with other technical leads to find ways to push our autonomy performance forward.
• Guide a diversity of talent, providing technical mentorship to other members of the team.

About You

• 5+ years work experience in Machine Learning for Autonomous Vehicles with either a prediction or planning focus.
• 2+ years experience mentoring ICs and/or managing high performing teams
• Experience with all of the following ML areas, and expertise in at least one area: sequence modeling, transformers, graph neural networks, generative modeling, zero/one/few-shot learning,  
• Adept programmer and can write high-quality code in both python and C++.
• Have an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Machine Learning, robotics, CS (or other related fields).
• You are passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on society.
• You are a quick learner, a hard worker, and a good team player.
