Rockstar New York is seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing Analytics practice and help build Rockstar’s security and integrity capacity. Successful candidates will work with analytics and Live Service Integrity leadership to identify and operationalize data signals that can be used to catch cheaters and keep our games fun and fair for all players. This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s NYC headquarters in Downtown Manhattan. 

WHAT WE DO

  • The Player Insights & Analytics team provide insights and actionable results to our stakeholders to support investigations and enable data-driven decisions. 
  • This Associate Data Scientist role will act as a dedicated resource to Live Service Integrity. This function is heavily focused on prevention and detection of issues, game health, and player satisfaction. 
  • We conduct projects and tasks that have direct influence on the player experience. 
  • We collaborate as a global team to develop cutting-edge data pipelines, data products, data models, reports, analyses and machine learning applications. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Protect the player experience by participating in investigations, establishing recommendations around the best course of action, and contributing to the development of automated solutions to prevent similar situations. 
  • Demonstrate relentless curiosity—learn everything you can about our games, our data,  and industry-standard best practices for detecting and stopping the numerous methods bad actors use to cheat in online gaming environments.   
  • Build and manage relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders inside and outside of PIA and Live Service Integrity.  
  • Utilize your strong communication skills to tell the story behind the data—results are only useful if you can communicate them in a way that people understand! 
  • Leverage existing tools and develop novel methods to detect anomalies in Rockstar’s data. 
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of applied ML solutions to address critical business needs under the supervision of senior team members.  
  • Identify and analyze key metrics and KPIs that have a high impact on the Live Service Integrity team’s operations. 
  • Partner with data analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to better understand requirements, find bottlenecks, and recommend resolutions. 
  • Grow with a team of experienced and accomplished data scientists. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Economics, Analytics, Cybersecurity, or similar fields required. 
  • 2+ years experience with SQL and relational data (academic experience included).  
  • Intermediate skill with Python and the Python Data Science stack (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, etc).  
  • Proficiency in descriptive and inferential statistics including distributions, predictive modeling, data validation, statistical testing, regression.  
  • Passion for Rockstar Games and our titles.

  • Strong communication skills—in order to be successful in this role, you’ll need to build and maintain relationships across multiple different teams.  
  • Being a data storyteller—you’ll need to help non-technical audiences see past the complexity in projects to understand the key takeaways from your analytics projects. 
  • A scientific mindset, including the ability to think critically about problems that are often ambiguous or poorly defined.  
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relations and communicate with people at all hierarchical levels. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to reconcile technical and business perspectives. 
  • Autonomy and entrepreneurship. 
  • Strong team spirit. 

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Experience with Data Visualization software, especially Tableau. 
  • Applied knowledge of advanced Machine Learning techniques including Ensemble methods, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Transformers/GenAI.  
  • Prior experience with pySpark is an asset. 
  • Graduate degree (MBA, MSc or Master’s, PHD), an asset. 
  • Game industry experience strongly desired.

The pay range for this position in New York State (inclusive of New York City) at the start of employment is expected to be between the range below* per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
