As a Senior Manager of the Data Science team, you will be responsible for leading a team that utilizes this large volume of data, and the data platform, to provide trusted insights and advice for the business. You must bring a deep background in Analytics and Data Science to the table along with demonstrated experience in building and managing a team. You’ll help set the vision and roadmap to grow VSCO’s data platform and the tech stack for analysis and modeling. Your team will be a key influence to help to ship beloved products and to help operate the company.

 

The day-to-day

  • Set the near term and long term strategy for data usage, sharing, analysis, modeling etc.
  • Be a trusted advisor to VSCO’s executive team and provide insights to inform the company’s strategy.
  • Manage, mentor and grow a team of skilled Data Analysts and Data Scientists proactively with continuous feedback, thought leadership, partnership, and formal reviews
  • Help Product and Lifecycle Marketing teams incorporate data, insights and model outputs into their plans to drive product engagement, usage and subscription renewals to company goals
  • Coach team members with their near term work on campaign/experiment setup, testing, and analysis
  • Create room for long lead projects like exploratory analysis; models for churn prediction, anomaly detection, forecasting etc.
  • Handle ambiguity elegantly, moving your team from uncertainty to clarity

 

Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience managing a team of Data Analysts and/or Data Scientists to deliver insights and help internal partners make decisions across functions such as Product Management, Marketing, Design and Engineering.
  • Expertise in working with a varied data platform using building blocks like Airflow, Spark, AWS RedShift etc. and commercial technologies to support product teams and business operations
  • Proven track record of helping grow team members in their careers and attracting top talent to the team.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in designing experiments to measure product impact, and developing automated processes to enable self-serve analytics 
  • Strong technical background and experience working via influence with Engineering, Product Management, Design, and Marketing to drive a high-volume product business for a mobile app or website
  • Bachelor’s degree, in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or other quantitative field, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience with ETL, data pipelines, Python, SQL, R and various IDEs (Jupyter Notebooks etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to executives and large groups

 

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting a subscription-based business using consumer-facing mobile applications
  • Knowledge of the creative tools ecosystem and technology, ideally having worked in that space
  • Appreciation for photography and/or the visual arts
