The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) offers hands-on degree, diploma, certificate, continuing education and corporate training programs to develop the skills and knowledge employers demand.
SAIT’s Information Technology Services department handles all software and hardware needs, as well as technological and networking issues for both employees and students who rely heavily on computer systems across our campuses. Technical support — which includes help with computer hardware and software technical problems, email, audio-visual needs and more — is available to everyone at SAIT, whether the problem occurs at home or on-campus.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a passionate Junior Data Analyst to join our growing team of analytics and data quality experts. The hire will be responsible for participating in expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture within our data warehouse, as well as optimizing data flow and collection from cross functional teams.
Additionally, the hire will share in the responsibility of system administration of our data management tool (Ataccama).

The Role
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of the data pipeline architecture
- Assist with the assembly of large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
- Assist with the identification, design, and implementation of internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
- Assist with the building the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Azure Synapse technologies
- Assist with the analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics
- Assist in working with stakeholders including the Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
- Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers
- Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
- Run test case scenarios across the Landscape, include Unit Testing and System Integration Testing
- Provide system administration services for the Ataccama tool kit, and support Data Stewards with data quality configuration
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirement recent graduate from an applicable SAIT program (e.g. Business Intelligence, Analytics and Reporting Program)
- Exposure to Ataccama tools would be an asset
- Working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
- An understanding of data pipelines, architectures and data sets
- Exposure to root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
- Self-starter, self-learner, versatile and adaptable, “Can Do” positive attitude
- Willingness and ability to jump into any situation
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaboratively work with both technical and business to ensure optimal solution design
