Senior Data Scientist - Image / Video Understanding (12 months Contract)

Huawei Ireland Research Centre (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions. To achieve this we are building an industry-recognized multi-discipline Research Centre of experts with focus on medium-term to long-term issues. The IRC will work closely with an open innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

Huawei Consumer Business Group. The IRC work closely with the Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) which covers smartphones, PC and tablets, wearables, mobile broadband device, family device and device cloud service, and is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei CBG is dedicated to delivering the latest technologies to consumers and sharing the happiness of technological advances with more people around the world. In this role, you will have the chance to work on project that matters to the lives of millions of people, contributing to Huawei AI initiatives to understand what lies behind images and videos and improve many downstream projects. You will also drive the success of a Machine Learning project from scratch to its completion, i.e., from dataset acquisition, model building, model evaluation, and collaborate with the business to see your models deployed live.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with images and videos
• Dataset acquisition
• Literature review and investigate the state of the art
• Build models with novelty, applicability, and practicality in mind.
• Model evaluation and iteration
• Write documentation, papers, or patent application (whichever applicable)
• Navigate ambiguity that might occur in the projects or relationship with stakeholders
• Technology transfer of the models and working closely with business units

Requirements

• Passionate about data and machine learning
• Experience in Computer Vision for daily images and videos, especially in object detection, activity recognition, scene/location recognition, and dealing with imbalance classes
• Research experience, e.g., you have a PhD, or have worked in a Research lab (or some other similar experience)
• Software engineering background, e.g., you have a Computer Science background, or software engineering working experience
• Able to work independently and as a team, and drive a project from its inception to the finish line on time
• Publication track records in top tier conferences or journals
