Elwood Technologies is seeking a data engineer to work on data and research projects within the engineering team. This team is responsible for delivering large volumes of data to internal users in a reliable and performant manner. We partner with the investment teams to provide market data solutions that are essential for the digital asset investment process. We support a cloud-native infrastructure and scalable data pipelines. The candidate will work as a key part of a highly-collaborative, tight-knit team of talented market data developers

Elwood’s Data and Research team is looking for talented engineers to help us manage business critical data leveraged across the entire platform. If you are data curious, excited about designing real-time data pipelines, and motivated by having an impact on the digital assets trading, we want to hear from you.

We partner with the investment teams to make data-driven decisions fast and accurately on petabytes of real-time data, so we’re looking for people with a strong background in data engineering and analytics to help us scale and bring in new insights. You’ll be working with a variety of internal teams across Engineering and Business to help them solve their data needs.

Job Description

• Help build and maintain our cloud-native data pipelines capable of collecting, processing, storing and retrieving very large volumes of real-time data in a performant and scalable manner.
• Help bring Elwood’s holistic view of full spectrum market activities to customers as data products.
• Work very closely with analysts, quants, traders and portfolio managers to understand their business needs and data research requirements.
• Own the full scope of the assigned projects, including liaising with the business to gather requirements, designing the solution, and building and delivering completed functionality to production.
• Support our business users in their interactions with the data platform and ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the data delivery pipeline.
• Produce comprehensive written documentation.
• Perform with minimum supervision, exercising sound judgement.

Qualifications / Knowledge

• An inquisitive nature in diving into data inconsistencies to pinpoint issues
• Degree in Computer Science or closely related field
• 2+ years development background
• Strong understanding of statistical concepts
• Experience with a programming language (Java, Scala, Golang, etc)
• POSIX system and SQL, scripting languages and database concepts
• Experience with BigQuery, Athena or other cloud big data solution a plus
• Experience building data pipelines/ETL and familiarity with design principles
• Experience with serverless architecture a plus
• Documentation skills – ability to represent ideas, requirements, and problems in clear and concise documents.
• Strong communication skills
