At Beyond Meat, we are focused on raising the bar on talent.  We are dedicated to shaping an inclusive culture that drives excellence, innovation, and results by enabling talent acceleration and development, engagement, and the employee experience.  The newly formed and dedicated EU Innovation R&D Team is a matrix organization within Beyond Meat that is dedicated to creating food products that are leading the gold standard in plant-based proteins with an underlying focus on product properties and process interactions.  They are looking for an outstanding individual to join them in the Netherlands as a Data Scientist. 
The EU Innovation team is looking for an outstanding individual to join Beyond Meat at the company’s EU Innovation Hub in the Netherlands. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in data science and machine learning for achieving company goals. This successful, self-motivated, creative, team-oriented, resourceful, adaptable, and results-oriented individual will have a solid foundation in statistics, ML, data visualization, and data storytelling.  As Innovation Data Scientist, you will work collaboratively with engineers, scientists, project managers, and others to apply data science approaches to solving problems.  
The ideal Data Scientist will have demonstrated success in generating business value from complex data, including building applications, models, and dashboards to support a research and product development team, as well as teaching and mentoring individuals.

TASKS, DUTIES, & GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and operationalize proprietary algorithms, models, and applications to support research and product development
• Partner closely with domain experts (food science, analytical chemistry, protein bioinformatics, etc.) to identify areas where data science can bring disruptive value
• Retrieve, cleanse, manipulate, and translate complex data into powerful data insights.
• Apply data storytelling skills to translate data insights into business recommendations, and communicate with Innovation stakeholders to inform data-driven decision making
• Stay current on published data mining, machine learning, and modeling techniques
• Perform other tasks/responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience

• MS in a relevant field required; PhD strongly preferred
• 2+ years research experience in applying machine learning and data science principles to complex dataHand-on experience building production data pipelines
• Demonstrated experience in building, serving, and monitoring data science applications
• Experience with sourcing and modeling data from application APIs
• Extensive experience with using cloud computing platforms (AWS or GCP)
• Experience designing/implementing cloud architectures for machine learning is a plus
• Strong understanding of various statistical and machine learning techniques (Regression, Clustering, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Bayesian models, etc.)
• Extensive experience with a diversity of data tools and languages such as Python (Pandas, SciPy, NumPy, scikit-learn etc), SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)
• Working knowledge of  containerization/virtualization of applications (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with version control and source control methodologies (Git, Mercurial)Ability to work independently and cross collaboratively with other engineering and business teams
• Outstanding technical capability with a proven track record of project management and delivery
• Experience working in a matrix and highly collaborative team oriented environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluent in English, both written and spoken
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at one time
• Comfort with ambiguity; able to thrive with minimal oversight and precedence; ability to work in team environment
• The ability to worked closely with Senior Leadership by communicating ongoing progress updates

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, communicate using a computer and phone
• Position located in a mix of typical research laboratory, pilot labs, culinary centers, and office environments; requires a tolerance for high worker traffic, close quarters, noise, odors, dust, periodically wet and dirty floors, and varying room temperatures and lighting
• Some travel may be necessary (5%)
