About the team

Stripe has millions of users around the world who rely on our infrastructure to run their businesses. Our Operations team helps them be successful. As a data science partner to Operations, you will help run the complex system of global support requests. You will solve complex forecasting challenges to predict our support volume, look for opportunities to optimize agent staffing, and think about data-informed ways to improve the experience of the support team. What you’ll do

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as an embedded partner to the Operations team, bringing a data-driven perspective to achieving the team’s goals. As the partnership develops, suggest new projects and potential areas for collaboration.
  • Forecast Stripe’s support volume across case types and geographies, and use forecasts to help develop capacity plans
  • Create simulations and/or solve optimization problems to inform support agent staffing
  • Build expert systems to allow for user interaction with forecasting outputs and staffing plans
  • Design, analyze, and interpret the results of experiments to analyze the effect of new forecasting and staffing initiatives
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years experience working with and analyzing large data sets to solve problems
  • A PhD or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Operations Research, Economics, Statistics, Sciences, Engineering, CS)
  • Expert knowledge of a scientific computing language (such as R or Python) and SQL
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and experimental design
  • Experience in designing and building data pipelines
  • Solid business acumen and experience in synthesizing complex analyses into interpretable content
  • A demonstrated ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects
  • A builder’s mindset with a willingness to question assumptions and conventional wisdom
