THE ROLECovariant ML engineers combine technical depth with business-spanning breadth. Your job is to make our robotic brain successful in the field, from the first prototype design through to production. You’ll pitch the product to warehouse managers and C-level executives alike. You’ll work alongside mechanical engineers, software developers, implementation partners, business executives, and warehouse technicians to make our robots, and our customers, succeed.
AREAS OF FOCUS
- Model Performance: You’ll be tuning and training neural nets to improve the performance of customers’ robots.
- Custom Solutions: You’ll write code to customize our solution to the particular customer challenge and environment.
- Product Ownership: You’ll be responsible for our robots’ success from end-to-end, which means communicating with partners and customers, seeing around corners, and taking on unexpected problems as they arise.
- Product Feature Advisement: Advise on core product feature developments based on your unique perspective in the field, you’ll work with our research team to design new product features at the cutting edge of machine learning and robotics.
- Customer Consultation: Every deployment is different. Help our customers figure out which potential use cases are a good fit for the Covariant Brain.

- Partner with our customers to make them successful, and take pride in their success.
YOU HAVE
- BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Physics, Mathematics or similarly quantitative/technical field, with advanced degree preferred
- Proficiency in writing, reading and understanding code. We work primarily in python, but the specific languages and frameworks you know are less important than your ability to learn new ones.
- Willingness and ability to travel to client locations (10%-25%)
- Experience with machine learning models, either formal or self-taught
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience coding against a multitenant, professional codebase (using tools like git)
- Comfort at the linux command line and with the associated tools
- Experience with deep learning
- Past experience with robotics
- Customer or client facing experience
- Familiarity with AWS and distributed computing
- Experience with networking, optics/camera calibration, and
- Some experience building physical things. CAD design and/or fabrication experience appreciated.
