The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.
Functions based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning play an increasingly important role for the experience we offer our customers within their Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz Data and AI team is seeking a passionate and versatile Machine Learning Intern to join our Team for the Fall of 2024 to support with the ideation, development and deployment of such functions. You will work with our Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) team based in Silicon Valley. The team focuses on providing the next-generation in-vehicle AI platform and supports the development of AI-driven products that will shape the future of Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the goal of enhancing our customer’s experience. In this position, you will work independently and collaboratively with our Product Owners, Data Engineers and Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and Embedded Software Developers to further develop our platform, ideate new customer products or improve existing ones. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and optimize the MLOps pipelines that form the core of our products.
  • Define and implement AI-driven user journeys based on customer and system requirements.
  • Provide support to Machine Learning Engineers who deploy the latest models on -and offboard.
  • Work closely with a proactive, highly motivated engineering team to bring next generation infotainment and telematics solutions to Mercedes-Benz products worldwide.
  • Support improvement of embedded and cloud-based AI platform.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software with a measurable customer value.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s/PhD degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or related technical field of study 
  • High school diploma required
  • Strong programming and software development skills in Python
  • Familiarity with standard ML frameworks such as PyTorch
  • Experience with processing big data on cloud platforms (PySpark or Scala)
  • Knowledge of GenAI systems such as LLMs and how to include them in your products
  • Experience with git or other version control systems
  • Able to learn quickly and willing to share knowledge
  • Strong instincts for efficiency and optimization, with self-motivation to work with colleagues such that only high quality products reach customers
  • Problem solving and communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Generative AI, Deep Learning, Recommendation Systems, Information Retrieval, Retrieval-augmented Generation, Agent-based assistant systems
  • Understanding of ML workflow: preparing the data, implementing, and training ML models, evaluating results, deploying inference on different platforms
  • Training of large ML models within cloud environment
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
  • Curious, self-motivated, and excited about solving open-ended challenges at Mercedes-Benz

Additional Information:The current hourly rate for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $28 (Undergraduate Students)/$32 (Graduate Students)
