About the job

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with experience in Machine Learning (ML) for managing and growing a team of ML Engineers at Epic. The ML Engineering team at Epic develops and delivers ML and Data Driven algorithms and systems to production. The team’s charter spans Recommendations, Search, and other product experiences where ML and AI has a key role to play. This is a core engineering team whose contributions help nurture the love of reading in several million kids worldwide.

What you will be doing

• Manage and grow a team of ML Engineers, providing technical vision and strategy
• Work with the team on building out the roadmap for ML models using bleeding edge AI and ML algorithms for continuously improving content recommendations and search
• Work with the team on building out the roadmap for ML infrastructure for automated training, easy deployment of models as microservices, and easy integration into our public facing application backend
• Form effective collaborations with cross functional teams across Product, Design, Engineering, and Marketing and across geographical locations to drive ML based product experiences such as Recommendations and Search forward
• Proactively mentor and help individuals on the team develop into experts in ML.

What you should have

• 2+ years experience as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager managing and growing a team of ML Engineers
• Experience developing machine learning models using bleeding edge AI and ML algorithms, with data from a variety of sources - user-content interaction, natural language content, audio, and  images
• Experience delivering production quality ML algorithms and systems at scale for Recommendations and Search
• Enthusiastic, positive, and able to maintain grace and humor when under pressure
