The Opportunity
Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Operations and Reporting, Office of the Registrar (OTR), you will work closely with the Business and Systems Team within Office of the Registrar (OTR) to research, develop, and enhance the University's student data system and other related applications for data reporting and analysis and plays a key role in enhancing the Office of the Registrar's ability to provide student and academic-related data, applications, and resources that support data-driven operational decisions. You will also provide technical and business analysis support for Banner (and integrated systems such as Argos, FormsFusion, and interfaces), Curriculog/Acalog, EnCampus, Cisco, and all other technical systems and applications used within the department. You will work with the Associate Registrar to refine and enhance current processes and assist in the development and execution of a technology plan primarily focusing on reporting and data analysis for the OTR.

The Role


  • Prepare operational reports and dashboard that support business processes and decision making
  • In collaboration with department leaders and staff, develop specifications for data blocks, dashboards and reports.
  • Develop and execute ad-hoc queries for immediate operational needs, proof of concept for dashboard or report design
  • Design and develop reports and dashboards using applications such as Argos, Tableau or PowerBI

  • Support end users to perform key business operations in Banner Production environment and test environments
  • Support change within the OTR for business process and system changes in alignment with change management direction
  • Contribute to the development of quick reference guides and other supporting aides for staff.
  • Contribute to development of training for staff.
  • Respond to requests for help from end users.

  • Collaborate with process owners within the department to gather business requirements and understand challenges for use in design sessions
  • Analyze business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary
  • Troubleshoot problems and suggest solutions; resolve where possible and refer more complex issues to higher levels.

  • Perform system and functional testing of reports Support the configuration and enhancement of Ellucian Banner and all other systems and interfaces to support the goals and processes of the OTR.  
  • Monitor Ellucian Client Support Site for releases notes and system patches while networking with other Banner User Institutions. Provide recommendations for enhancements and improvements based on this information
  • Review system updates and assist with  fit/gap analysis, make recommendations on updates that will benefit business processes
  • Understand the student and related data required of interfaces to ensure system and data integrity
  • Perform system testing for new solutions, defect resolution and upgrades
  • Provide input into the technology plan for OTR

  • Conduct research on potential solutions to identified business problems
  • Investigate issues to determine root cause – system, business process or human error
  • Use of technology or automation to streamline business processes to reduce time and effort to accomplish desired results

  • Policy and/or Regulatory Responsibilities
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for updates or additions to SAIT policies / procedures
  • Adherence to SAIT policy/procedures and legislative acts / laws of the Province of Alberta and Canada

Qualifications & Experience


  • Minimum Required
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • 5 or more years direct experience with enterprise resource planning systems, student information system maintenance and support for post-secondary educational institutions
  • Data extraction, manipulation and reporting experience with SQL and reporting or data analytics applications such as Argos, Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Strong relationship building and relationship management skills
  • Proficient with database applications and effective use of relevant business systems and tools.
  • Strong communication skills.  Capable of explaining complex technical matters to non-technical users. 
  • Must be very detail-orientated, organized, be able to prioritize, and multi-task a variety of tasks.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Preferred
  • Demonstrated familiarity with project management and change management principles.
  • Experience with data management, business process improvement or software development an asset.
  • Experience with forms and report design principles.
  • Functional experience with Ellucian Banner is an asset.
  • Experience with a variety of Office of the Registrar related software, including functions related to advising, call centre, admissions, learner records, scheduling, registration, transfer articulation or enrollment reporting
