Senior Data Engineer - Financial Data Products

The Finance organization helps prepare Spotify for its continued future growth, both organically and through acquisitions. We believe in thinking about data as a product: We’re looking for data engineers willing to embrace end-to-end responsibilities, from solidifying technical foundations to using analytics to understand our consumers’ use cases and enabling them to answer key financial questions.
As a senior data engineer in the Overtone squad, you will support Finance’s efforts through the curation, production, and management of core financial data products. These high-quality datasets represent revenue and costs derived from ads, content, subscriptions, and partnerships while enabling critical initiatives such as Forecasting, Financial Reporting, and Financial Planning.

What you'll do

• Design, prototype, and build data pipelines processing billions of data points daily.
• Advocate for and implement best practices around data quality and engineering.
• Apply product thinking to data: manage the data product lifecycle from sourcing to documentation and exposition while always keeping consumers’ success and experience in mind.
• Partner with engineers, data scientists, and business teams to create flexible and intuitive data products supporting Spotify globally.
• Learn from and collaborate with cross-functional financial stakeholders and develop an appreciation for their domain-  Leverage mentorship and constructive feedback to drive accountability and growth within the team.

Who you are

• Have a degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering and programming experience (SQL, Java, C++, Scala, Python)-  3+ years of architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scalability, quality) of complex systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with advanced written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced coding skills, experience in distributed systems, functional principles & performance optimization.
• T-Shaped. Your primary area is data engineering but you are comfortable with second areas such as data presentation, backend engineering, or front-end development.
• Professional experience working in an agile environment.
• Comfortable with tackling very loosely defined problems, especially when working on a team that has autonomy in their day-to-day decisions.
• Have performed an analysis of large datasets in a cloud-based environment, preferably with an understanding of Google’s Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform is beneficial.
• Experience in mentoring and leading junior engineers is a plus.
