In this position, you perform a variety of high-level technical and analytical tasks to improve data quality before developing dashboards to elevate Colorado Springs Police Department's (CSPD) business intelligence.  You will work closely with system administrators and crime analysts to research, remediate and monitor data quality issues that impact analysis and reporting.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: 

  • Work closely with data partners to understand analytical needs
  • Use technology to evaluate large data sets to discern obstacles to data usability; provide recommendations for improvement or other appropriate analytics solutions
  • Work with system administrators to include RMS to prioritize and correct data quality errors, determine root cause for data quality errors and make recommendations for long-term solutions
  • Write SQL scripts and queries from data sources to extract data and create reports and dashboards using Socrata and Power BI
  • Develop process improvements to enhance overall data quality
  • Determine business-level impacts related to data quality issues; work cross-functionally to understand errors and develop data cleansing plans and/or implement permanent process solutions to improve data quality
  • Create user-specified reports and dashboards within user databases; document functionalities; assist with end-user training and support
  • Define and developing clear and concise standard operating procedures, including standards in collaboration with other members of the department and representatives from other departments
  • Ensure crime data analysts can effectively utilize CSPD’s data to advance data-driven decision making
  • Collaborate with crime analysts to design and develop data analysis and reporting solutions for multiple stakeholder groups
  • Collaborate with CSPD and City team members to create and advance data governance policies and controls
  • Research current data science methods, continuously learn new technical skills without formal instruction, and disseminate technical information to analysts and other stakeholders with the appropriate level of detail.


We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of intermediate math and statistical analysis
  • Ability to analyze data and report findings and conclusions
  • Ability to write reports, prepare letters, expositions, and summaries
  • Ability to forecast based on data
  • Ability to prepare statistical charts, graphs, and exhibits using data
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

This position allows for a flexible hybrid work schedule to include remote work time.
