In order for us to execute on our vision, we are looking to add a Staff Data Scientist to the Investments Division of our Data Science team to lead and build data driven investment theses and deploy those theses across our $2B capital fund.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ownership of multiple machine learning & statistics driven investment products end to end and be expected to maximize capital deployment and identify opportunities for increasing efficiency.  This will include leading development for design, architecture, deployment and maintenance.
  • Close collaboration with every member of the Data Engineering and MLOps Teams, along with fostering relationships with business and product teams to develop and improve our time-series forecasting models for use in the e-commerce space. 
  • Integration with all functions of Clearco, ranging from core Engineering team to the marketing team.
  • Constant communication with the team to understand what features of your platform need to be built out, and helpful coaching of junior team mates through bug fixes when necessary.
  • Scoping and actioning of business needs with speed and accuracy, and then independently leading on their execution.

  • Heavy bias towards action. Ability to solve problems end-to-end on your own. You will implement ideas and experiments on your own with minimal support.
  • Have experience working in a senior data scientist or software engineering role, you are an expert when it comes to coding and you’re ready to roll up your sleeves to get the job done! 
  • Have a strong business sense, you can foresee potential issues and solve them quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
  • Strong interest in building businesses within e-commerce and fintech.

Technical Requirements:

  • Ideally, you have worked on 4 or more different production level machine learning projects in your career in a professional setting for at least 8 months each.  This means you probably have between 3 years and 8 years of experience. 
    • Bonus points for distributed architectures heavily reliant on time-series data.
  • Have 2+ years of experience working with industry standing Python-based ML frameworks (Tensorflow, sklearn, xgboost, etc). Potentially, you have built custom extensions of standard implementations of ML these frameworks in a professional setting.
  • Understanding of how machine learning can drive business decisions and value and can point to areas where you have demonstrated the ability to leverage machine learning in this manner in a professional setting.
  • Comfortable in a fast pace and changing roadmap team that builds the plane after jumping off the cliff.
  • Desire to be a part of the world’s premier venture capital firm for deploying data driven investment theses. 
  • Comfortable working with a wide array of data integrations and 3rd party vendors to create machine learning products for maximizing business value and supporting our vision and roadmap.
  • Skilled in advanced use cases spanning technologies including Python, SQL, Snowflake, Kubernetes and pipeline management/orchestration tools (Eg. Airflow, Argo).
  • Demonstrated experience or working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with professional experience on at least one cloud platform (Eg. Azure, AWS, GCP etc.).
