Job Overview:

Coupang's extensive logistics system is composed of hundreds of large and small logistics nodes, and there are tens of thousands of possible connections between each node. Through this network, more than 1 billion packages are shipped to each household a year.

As a Data Scientist you will provide ad-hoc statistical analyses to reveal operational problems and identify root causes in various operation processes. You provide decision support by building machine learning and optimization models/algorithms to solve business problems with complex rules and conflicting objectives, such as labor planning, task scheduling, FC picking/stowing optimization, operational anomaly detection, transportation routing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply machine learning/operations research/analytical techniques to address fulfillment center business needs, improve logistics processes, help cut operation cost, and optimize customer experiences
• Define problems, develop customized algorithms/models, and perform experimentation to provide actionable insights to stakeholders
• Mine and analyze domain data to identify improvement opportunities and drive improvement of operations
• Work with other functional teams to implement algorithms/models, and monitor outcomes
• Partner with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions

Basic Qualifications:

• Masters or PhDs in Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or another quantitative discipline
• 3+ years of work experience in application of machine learning/OR techniques to solve practical business problems. 5+ years of professional experience in such areas is preferred.
• Programming experience in Python (preferred) /R/SQL/Spark to manipulate data, develop algorithms/models, and draw insights from large data sets
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Good understanding of the underlying mathematical foundations of statistical approaches and machine learning algorithms
• Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing and development of predictive / prescriptive models
• Experience in optimizing algorithms for performance in production
• Team player with a self-motivated and “CAN-DO” attitude
• Ability to learn new techniques, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment
• Ability to present data and its implications in a clear and concise manner

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of fulfillment center operations, logistics or supply chain management
• Interest in reading and applying academic research to business problems
• Experience formulating linear, convex, and nonlinear optimization problems
• Experience in Bayesian inference, reinforcement learning, linear relaxation and Monte Carlo simulation
• Knowledge and experience with distributed data computing tools, such as Hive, Spark
• Knowledge and experience with Java, C, C++
• Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc
• Good communication skills in English, written and verbal

직무 개요:

쿠팡의 광범위한 물류 시스템은 수백개의 크고 작은 물류 노드로 구성되었으며 각 노드간 수만개의 연결이 형성 가능합니다. 본 네트워크를 통해 연간 10 억개 이상의 소포를 고객들에게 배송하고있습니다.  데이터 사이언티스트로서 다양한 운영 프로세스 중 문제점을 발견하고 근본원인을 포착하기 위한 애드혹(ad-hoc) 통계적 분석을 제공해야 합니다. 인력 계획, 작업 일정 조율, 물류센터 집품/진열 최적화,  운영상 이상 발견,  운송 노선 계획 등과 같이 복잡한 규칙이 적용되고 서로 충돌하는 목표들을 갖고 있는 비즈니스 문제를 해결하기 위해 머신 러닝과 최적화를 위한 모델/알고리즘을 구축하여 의사결정을 지원해야 합니다.

주요 업무 내용:

• 머신 러닝/오퍼레이션과 연구/분석 기술을 적용하여 풀필먼트센터(Fulfillment Center) 의 비즈니스 니즈 충족, 물류 프로세스 개선, 운영비용 절감 지원, 고객경험 최적화
• 문제 정의,  맞춤형 알고리즘/모델 개발,  다양한 실험 진행 등을 통해 이해관계자들에게 실행 가능한 통찰력 제공
• 도메인 데이터를 취합 및 분석하여 개선할 수 있는 기회를 포착하고 운영 개선을 추진
• 다른 팀들과 협력하여 알고리즘/모델 적용 및 그에 따른 결과 모니터링
• 회사 전반에 걸쳐 여러 이해관계자들과 협력하여 데이터 활용을 통해 비즈니스 솔루션을 추진할 수 있는 기회 포착

자격 요건:

• 통계학, 오퍼레이션 리서치,  컴퓨터 과학 혹은 이와 동등한 분야에 대한 석사 또는 박사학위를 소유한 자
• 3년 이상 실질적인 사업 문제를 해결하기 위한 기법 또는 머신 러닝을 적용한 경력을 보유한 자.
• 특히, 해당 분야에 대해 5 년 이상의 전문적인 경력을 보유한 자 선호.
• 방대한 규모의 데이터를 조작,  알고리즘/모델 개발, 필요한 Python(선호됨)/R/SQL/Spark 에 대한 프로그래밍 경험을 보유한 자
• 뛰어난 분석, 문제 해결 능력을 보유한 자
• 통계적 접근법과 머신 러닝 알고리즘의 수학적 기초에 대한 높은 이해력을 보유한 자
• 탐색적 데이터 분석, 예측 모델의 개발, 실험, 통계적 분석에 대한 경험을 보유한 자
• 프로덕션 환경에서 알고리즘을 최적화한 경험을 보유한 자

• Hive, Spark 와 같은 분산 데이터 컴퓨팅 툴에 대한 지식과 경험을 보유한 자
