Job summary
Amazon’s North American Customer Fulfillment (NACF) organization fulfills customer orders throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico leveraging the hard work of thousands of our associates and our robotics technologies. The business intelligence arm of NACF, Central Tech Team (CTT), is looking for a data engineer to help scale its data infrastructure and democratize data for our business partners.

As a Data Engineer with NACF finance, you will help identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve Operations and Finance facing systems and tools. In this role, you will build datasets that finance analysts and BIEs use to generate actionable insights. You should be passionate about working with huge data sets and someone who loves to bring datasets together to answer business questions and drive change.

Key job responsibilities
• Design, implement, and support a platform providing access to large datasets
• Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL
• Own, maintain and scale a Redshift cluster and manage other AWS Resources
• Model data and metadata for ad hoc and pre-built reporting
• Collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers, finance analysts, product managers, and data engineers to deliver high quality data architecture and pipelines
• Recognize and adopt best practices in engineering and operational excellence: data integrity, validation, automation and documentation
• Coaching fellow data engineers and ultimately raising the bar of data engineering excellence across Amazon’s Consumer Marketing organizations.

About the team
Central Tech Team (CTT) supports the North America finance and operations teams and a broad set of stakeholders across fulfillment center business. CTT focuses on finance automation by making data available for our business partners and automating complex finance tools. The team manages data from multiple sources including its own data engineering infrastructure and central engineering teams.

Basic Qualifications


• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipeline
• Advanced SQL and query performance tuning skills
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering) or equivalent work experience
• Demonstrated strength in designing systems and experience in manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
• Proficient in one of Programming languages (e.g., Python, Ruby, Shell Scripting, Scala, Java)
• Experience leading and influencing the data strategy of your team or organization

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry experience as a Senior/Lead Data Engineer or related specialty with a track record of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large data sets
• Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Scala, etc.)
• Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
• Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources
• Experience leading large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies – Redshift, S3, EC2, Data-pipeline and other big data technologies
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentor other engineers for the best practices on the data engineering space
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The role requires effective communication with senior management as well as with colleagues from operations and business backgrounds
