Senior Data Engineer

As part of our vision to become a truly global IT organization, we have started to build our local, autonomous, cross-functional squads that can take an aspect of our product and perfect it from concept to execution with full autonomy. We are growing our squads inside the SumUp Bank business unit, which provides digital banking services to SumUp merchants, and our goal is to have a strong and flexible core banking that can empower merchants even more anywhere in the world.  

As a Data Engineer in SumUp Bank, you will be a part of one of our squads in Brazil, working to build cross-functional, transparent, and affordable platforms for millions of small merchants across our 30+ markets, with the freedom to experiment with new things and apply your ideas to our products.

On the tech side, we work on a number of different projects that span technologies, systems, and processes. Our platform is cloud-native, running everything with Kubernetes in AWS, completely provisioned via infrastructure as code. 

What you'll do

• Own and guide the evolution of the product and engineering, with total freedom to experiment and propose changes as well as introduce new technology or features (we have Hack Days every two weeks, where individuals or groups get together to experiment with personal projects).
• Work with the data platform engineering team to develop data structures and reliable data pipelines.
• Design, build and evolve systems and interfaces that enable your team with relevant, usable and reliable data (internal and external) to evolve the models, enabling the financial viability and scalability of an array of financial products within SumUp.
• Provide thoughtful and comprehensive documentation for your features before shipping them.
• Collaborate with other Software, QA, Security, and DevOps engineers to ensure smooth implementations with high levels of security and quality.

You'll be great for this position if you

• Energize working in Engineering and Product centric teams.
• You have 5+ years of experience building large scale data solutions to enable people and systems.
• Have worked with large processing databases such as Postgres, Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS Redshift.
• You know in deep data ingestion, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ; scheduling, such as AirFlow and DBT; and also warehousing fundamentals.
• Have long experience with SQL, and with at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala).
• You know your way around ETL, ELT, Data Lake, Data Warehousing, or Data Mesh.
• Are fluent in Portuguese and are comfortable working in teams that will often communicate in English - you'll be working in a truly global company and we have incentives for developing your English skills.
• Have experience with cloud-native applications. Having experience with AWS is a plus.
• Have previous experience within the financial services and banking domain in your profile.
