Data Analytics Lead

This is a full-time role in Chicago or Remote

SpotOn is a fast-growing Point-of-Sale, marketing, loyalty, sales, and reputation tracking platform that helps customers check in to earn rewards at their favorite local businesses using our web, mobile phone, and tablet products. Business owners can use data generated by these check-ins, as well as sales data, to reach out and connect with their customers, and manage their online reputation, and experience the benefits of loyal, returning customers.

SpotOn’s data analytics team provides up-to-date, accurate data, analyses, insights and recommendations to support data-driven decision making and improve operational efficiency across SpotOn’s different departments and teams. We build our data infrastructure as a product instead of just a service, with the ability to make a significant impact on Spoton’s products, operations and business strategy.

As a Data Analytics Lead at SpotOn, you will be expected to operate independently while demonstrating high level of ownership, partner with different departments and teams to collect business requirements and questions; use various types of data and tools to create analyses and dashboards that answer those business questions; and support the teams’ daily operations. You will be an active thought partner and subject matter expert to data, deeply involved in new projects and all aspects of your stakeholders deliverables to bring them, and SpotOn in general, huge value, insights and support.

What you'll do..

  • Have an ownership of a business segment where you will implement SpotOn’s data analytics strategy end-to-end
  • Partner with product & engineering managers to ensure data-driven decision making guides product development, making sure business priorities are aligned and execution of the data team is flawless  
  • ֱDefines, implements and improves data structure & transformations and/or dashboards practices and processes with an emphasis on automation
  • Defines technical best practices for your team' data structure & transformations and/or dashboards
  • Address larger-scope data & transformation gaps (availability, structure) in the process of making changes
  • Work with teams to identify a roadmap for future evolution of wing-to-wing data structure & transformations and/or dashboards. 
  • Explore, test and bring in new technologies solving tangible business problems
  • Understand the larger focus of business/company goals and roadmap. Share updates and answers questions about the overall business with the team and acts as a proxy into other business units.
  • Continuously improve business acumen and understanding of SpotOn products and business, as well as the payments industry at large

If this describes you…

  • Exceptional data analytics capabilities using modern data technologies & programs such as - Tableau, Snowflake, dbt, Metabase 
  • SQL proficiency and comfortable using it to query very large data sets
  • Strong business understanding and experience with financial KPIs and sales funnel metrics. 
  • Driven by analytics and metrics, leveraging data to make informed decisions
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to prioritize. 
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to summarize, explain and simplify complex data analyses and concepts 
  • Superb presentation skills, great at using data to tell stories  
  • Team player with collaborative approach to work 
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously and proactively communicate changes and roadblocks.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with various stakeholders across departments, including senior management

Experience..

  • Undergraduate degree in quantitative major (Finance, Economics, Math, Computer Science) or equivalent experience; Master's in quantitative major a plus
  • 5+ years of data analytics experience, preferably for SaaS or payments companies
  • Experience presenting complex data analyses to senior management  
  • Experience using BI visualization tools like Metabase, Looker, Power BI or Tableau
  • Foundational understanding of data modeling best practices.  Bonus points for experience with dbt and version control.
  • Experience with a modern data warehouse like Snowflake, Big Query, Redshift or Firebolt
