About the Role:  

We are currently seeking a Data Engineer to join our Engineering team in order to support Planet’s operations and customer journey. 

As a Data Engineer you will help engineers to have the best up to date and actionable data to prioritize and manage their efforts. At the same time, you will work closely with the developers to create an insightful and data-driven customer journey.

Impact You’ll Own:

• Build and maintain data pipelines and models to help create data dashboards.
• Transform raw data from different sources in Planet’s data stack into consumable metrics.
• Translate operational requests within Planet organization into SQL queries.
• Develop and own new data solutions to improve Planet’s customer facing applications.
• Help figuring out the questions that customers are asking, and how our data can benefit them.

What You Bring:

• Strong experience writing efficient SQL queries and dbt models
• 3+ years of programming experience in Python
• Strong experience working with APIs
• Demonstrated experience with BigQuery
• Demonstrated experience building data pipelines with Google Dataflow & Apache Beam
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of how to scale code with cloud computing resources, e.g. AWS or GCP
• Experience using Docker and containerized architectures
• Good understanding of  Continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) such as Gitlab or Jenkins.

What Makes You Stand Out:

• Curiosity, a deep hunger to learn about space and data
• Strong knowledge of PostGIS
• Experience working with geospatial data (e.g. GeoJSON)
• Familiarity with most of geospatial data science libraries: NumPy, GeoPandas, Rasterio and Shapely
