Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst

As a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst, you will play a crucial role on our Data Science and Finance team, which partners across our Storytelling and Core Games studios supporting marketing, product, engineering, and game design. You’ll perform deep-dive analyses to understand changes in key metrics, and carry out research aimed at optimizing in-game systems. You’ll partner with Data Scientists to maintain our machine learning models, and you will be responsible for building and maintaining dashboards in our BI tool, managing data rollups, as well as building and running financial models. You will also be asked to draw conclusions from these, and to summarize your findings. Along the way, you’ll develop a deep understanding of mobile games. Your expertise in BI tools, data analysis, and reporting will help drive critical decisions across the organization, and your work will have a significant, lasting impact on the health of our games.

What We’ve Accomplished:

• Developed predictive models to estimate the lifetime value of our players
• Simplified marketing data pipeline from top to bottom, allowing for more accurate detection of player trends
• Re-built our financial forecasting model from the ground up, replacing a handful of disparate Excel models with one unified, next-generation time-series model
• Overhauled our analytics framework for new games, resulting in more accurate conclusions, arrived at more quickly

What You’ll Help Us Accomplish:

• Perform deep-dive analyses to understand changes in key metrics and support strategic decision-making across our teams
• Partner with Data Scientists to help maintain and update our various machine learning models
• Run our next-generation financial forecasting model to support forecasting, budgeting, planning and financial reporting processes
• Manage the finance “Operating Model”, which is the tool by which we manage game P&Ls and corporate financial planning
• Maintain several of our data rollups, used daily by the marketing team to evaluate results and make spending decisions
• Write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from our databases; build and maintain various dashboards, reports, and data visualizations
• Collaborate with stakeholders from different departments to gather requirements and ensure that BI and reporting solutions meet their needs

What You Bring to the Team:

• Bachelor's degree
• 3+ years of experience in a BI or analytics role
• The ability to work in a nimble environment and the desire to challenge the status-quo and drive improvements for Pocket Gems
• Strong desire to learn about financial modeling, forecasting, and business analytics
• Extensive experience with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Superset, etc…)
• Thorough command of SQL with the ability to read, edit, and write complex queries for data analysis
• Solid grasp of Excel / Google Sheets
• Outstanding communication skills, including capacity to present complex results to both technical and non-technical audiences

Extra Gems For:

• A passion for games and/or experience in the gaming industry
• Experience with financial modeling or forecasting
• Experience with Python
• Knowledge of basic stats (including statistical significance and hypothesis testing)

The range provided is Pocket Gems’ reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as location, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. In addition, this position is eligible for annual performance bonuses and equity.
