Job Description

About the role:

Do you have a passion for using data science to solve real-world environmental challenges? Are you eager to contribute to a sustainable future for high-impact industries? If so, this internship is for you!

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented intern to join our team working at the intersection of data science and sustainability (preferably a graduate student or a senior majoring in Mathematics/Statistics or computer science to work in the Sustainability and Global Engineering groups.

The co-op is expected to run for 7 months June through December and will be conducted either at our world headquarters in Perrysburg, OH, or remotely.

This position supports primarily the Global Sustainability group. 

Throughout your internship, you’ll be exposed to meaningful projects and mentorship opportunities. 

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Data Analyses and visualization:
  1. Modernize existing models to leverage the latest advancements in data science.
    1. Assess a large volume of data, analyze, and organize it in a meaningful manner with  visualization software.
    2. Utilize mathematical and statistical methods to develop predictive models. Analyze large datasets to identify relevant variables and patterns. Validate and optimize models using techniques such as cross-validations.
  • Communication: Interpret model results, design and create clear, informative analytics dashboards to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Adhere to quality and safety systems and maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Plan and execute independent work within the team.
  • Devise and implement approaches to solve problems.

Key Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • You're Pursuing a master’s or bachelor's degree (senior) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or other quantitative fields.
  • Strong mathematical background with coursework in calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics.
  • Strong passion for data science and its application to sustainability challenges.
  • Proficiency in a programming environment like Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience working with data in spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • The primary focus will be on assisting in designing data modeling processes, developing algorithms, and constructing predictive models to extract, analyze, summarize, and visualize data.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.
  • Must be passionate about solving complex problems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Results oriented
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range:  The expected hourly range for this position is between $20 - 26 USD.  Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
