About the role
Checkout.com is looking for a high-reaching Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Team. Our team’s mission is to ultimately provide all the tools/platforms which will ensure data can be easily demonstrated to the benefit of our products, merchants, and internal collaborators/teams.Our focus should be on improving the amount of time other teams spend on solving business problems/innovating their products and minimising time spent on technical details around implementation, deployment, and monitoring of their data solutions. We're building for scale. As such, much of what we design and implement today will be the technology/infrastructure which will serve hundreds of teams and petabyte-level volumes of data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build reliable infrastructure and data pipelines in AWS.
  • Reduce latency of data ingested/available across the platform.
  • Increase governance of our datasets through the implementation and adoption of our schema registry, data cataloging and information discovery solutions.
  • Increase monitoring/observability (availability, security, data latency, data quality, query performance, costs, auditing) across our Data Platform (warehouse (Snowflake) and streaming (Kafka)) and downstream systems/applications.
  • Facilitate the management and integration of access management framework (RBAC, IAM) across the platform.
  • Actively address any technical/documentation/monitoring debt.

About You:

  • Strong engineering background with a curiosity about data.
  • Creative problem solver with good attention to detail.
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses, preferably Snowflake.
  • Experience working with workflow management solutions, preferably Airflow.
  • Experience working with SQL and Python.
  • Comfortable with the Unix shell and shell scripting.
  • Experience describing infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar.
  • Experience using, crafting, and implementing CI/CD pipelines.

The topics / technologies below would be a nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Looker
  • Familiarity with Stream Processing (Kafka or Kinesis)
  • Familiarity working with Docker and container deployment
  • Familiarity with Java/Scala/C#
  • Familiarity working with dbt (or similar SQL pipeline solution like dataform).

  • If you feel like you're a good fit but don't tick all the boxes, please still apply as we'd love to hear from you!
