Senior Software Engineer, Data Integration Platform

The Data Integration Platform team at Wayfair is responsible for enabling teams by solving their data needs to drive Wayfair’s next $50B+ growth. Our team is looking for a smart, passionate, and curious Senior Software Engineer to help us scale our platform that provides data movement, integration, and processing capabilities to teams and individuals. With the broad set of technologies we are using, the scale at which our systems operate, and the diverse group of stakeholders we serve, you will have the opportunity to grow your skills and be exposed to new people and ideas while playing a significant role in Wayfair’s growth. What You’ll Do 

• Design and implement solutions at scale to complex data problems to empower a global user base of thousands of data consumers, data scientists, engineers, and analysts.
• Design and implement self-service offerings for highly distributed systems to improve the user experience of various user personas.
• Proactively identify high-impact problems, implement solutions and deliver incrementally.
• Own technical and operational standards of the systems, advocating for best practices to ensure uptime/reliability and adherence to Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
• Regularly provide high-quality design and code reviews and training for new technologies, tools, and patterns for the team.
• Mentor junior engineers to develop the next generation of Wayfair Technology.
• Constantly re-evaluate open-source, cloud, and internal solutions to keep up with current industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Contribute to shared toolings and standards to improve the productivity and quality of the broader Data Platforms org.

• 7+ years of hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems to handle data at scale.
• Strong Java, C# .NET or Python programming experience
• Strong understanding of some of the storage and data processing technologies, including Kafka, Apache Beam, Brooklin, Spark, SQL Server, Postgres, and MySQL.
• Familiarity with at least one of the public cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred) and their corresponding storage and data processing technologies.
• Familiarity with Terraform, Puppet, Kubernetes, and Spring Boot.
• Strong technical acumen to apply first-principles thinking to proposed solutions.
• Curiosity to explore and learn new technologies and apply the right tools for the job.
• Excellent communication and team-building skills.
• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
