Data Science Intern - Remote Opportunity- Chicago or Indianapolis

Duration: This is a 6-month internship position, full-time June- August (Summer Break) and part-time until November 15th. Must be avaliable during the full time frame.

Your Role:
As a Data Science Intern at K1X, you'll play a crucial role in assisting our data science team in leveraging technology to extract insights from tax documents. Collaborating closely with experienced data scientists and engineers, you'll contribute to projects aimed at optimizing tax processes through the implementation and utilization of cutting-edge technologies.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist in understanding project requirements and objectives in collaboration with the data science team.
  • Aid in data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing tasks to prepare data for analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data engineering solutions to optimize data pipelines and workflows.
  • Refactor existing codebase to improve efficiency, readability, and maintainability.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns, trends, and insights in tax documents.
  • Support in building and fine-tuning machine learning models for predictive analytics and classification tasks.
  • Assist in the deployment and testing of machine learning models in production environments.
  • Document work processes, methodologies, and results effectively.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language and associated libraries (such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Scikit-learn).
  • Experience with NLP libraries such as NLTK or spaCy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
