The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. The pRED Data & Analytics team is the bridge between digital technology and science and brings together all competencies required to design, build, operate and evolve our digital landscape and the pRED-wide data backbone. We enhance the full scientific data pipeline from structured data capture to powerful data integration and efficient data interrogation in order to create and develop successful drug molecules as efficiently as possible.

 

Internship Mission

 

As an intern in pRED Data & Analytics, you will be part of the RNAHub, a multidisciplinary research community that brings together scientists from all across Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), with the ultimate goal of developing novel oligonucleotide-based therapeutics as part of Roche’s mission to create transformative medicines for patients all around the world.

 

During your internship you will get practical experience with advanced data engineering tools and techniques. You’ll assist in gathering requirements, refining ELT processes, work with modern databases, and help transform complex data. Additionally you have the opportunity to expand your current knowledge and learn visualizations and computational applications. At the end of the internship you will have mastered development best practices within a research organization.

 

Your Profile

 

We are looking for a candidate with a computer science background or similar. You already have knowledge about:

 

  • Programming skills in Python and/or R

  • An understanding of SQL

  • Version control systems (preferably Git)

  • Basic understanding of testing frameworks in software development

 

Additionally helpful but not mandatory is knowledge and interest in:

  • Experience with building custom visualizations using R Shiny/Streamlit/Dash/Javascript

  • Experience working with transcriptomics data or knowledge of biological and chemical data and representations like HELM / SMILES

  • DBT and the principles of ELT (Extract, Load, Transform)

 

Who you are

  • You are enrolled or have recently completed your studies (within 12 months prior the start date) in bioinformatics, computer science (or similar) and are looking for a 6-month internship.

  • You are used to working in a team environment.

  • Your profile is rounded off by having good communication skills in the English language.

 

Due to regulations Non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents. Furthermore, they need to be enrolled during the entire duration of the internship.

 

This internship is not suitable for a Bachelor or Master thesis.
