Job summary
The Core Transportation Technology team is looking for a passionate data engineering leader to head the team in charge of Transportation Finance data engineering for Amazon. The PerfectMile Content team is a worldwide business intelligence and data integration team supporting Amazon’s transportation network, composed of business intelligence and data engineers as well as technical program managers. Together, we support Amazon Operations, Finance and HR by providing reliable, consistent and accurate insight and intelligence for our transportation network.

In this role, you will work with internal customers at all levels of the organization – Finance, Technology, Operational Research, and AWS Machine Learning teams. The potential candidate will enjoy the challenges and rewards of working in a fast-growing organization and at a global scale to develop and support the analytic technologies that give our teams flexible and structured access to their data, including implementation of a data platform, defining metrics and KPIs, automating reporting and data visualization and investigate how ML could augment our capabilities. You should have broad skills in database design, operational excellence, software development, defining metrics and KPIs, and applying analytical rigor to solve business problems.

This leader will be an independent thinker who makes convincing, data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate will devise clear strategy, positioning and execution priorities and will be comfortable thinking big and diving deep. S/he will be a pragmatic visionary who can identify opportunities and lead the team to translate them into workable, scalable technology solutions. S/he must be comfortable working with complex challenges, and working with engineering, product, other stakeholders internationally. S/he will also be an expert in building and developing high performance teams.

Key job responsibilities
-End to end ownership of a data engineering program and team team (8-10 members), including gathering inputs from leadership and partner teams, roadmap planning and prioritization, promoting best practices, and mentoring and developing your team

-Establishing and leading solutions across multiple teams. Champion data and metrics instrumentation during the development lifecycle for new products and services

-Drive development of tools, automation, and new innovative and insightful reports

-Support transportation finance business teams with data and analytical needs

Basic Qualifications


  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
  • Experience managing a data or BI team
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience leading and influencing the data strategy of your team or organization
  • Experience in SQL

  • 7+ years of experience performing quantitative analysis, preferably for an Internet with large, complex data sources.
  • Hands-on experience on Big data technologies and frameworks. Hive, Spark, Hadoop, SQL on Big Data, Redshift
  • Experience in near real time analytics
  • Experience with scripting languages i.e. Python, Perl, etc.
  • Experience with ETL, Data Modeling, and working with large-scale datasets. Extremely proficient in writing performant SQL working with large data volumes
  • Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously and drive projects to completion.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering).
