Job Summary

Functions in a supervisory management role or as a technical specialist. Independently develops and applies advanced system engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. May supervise design technology staff on projects of medium to high complexity, or serve as a technical specialist providing expert knowledge and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Project Support:

  • Executes projects using commercial plant design tools or AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operations) software to deliver the engineering deliverables to include:
    • Operating Procedures and working instructions
    • Inter discipline modelling approach and execution
    • Engineering requirements and input for configuring the commercial plant design system for multiple related engineering disciplines and tool sets
    • Template configuration and conformance to project requirements.
  • Provide technical support to all engineering disciplines
  • Setup, maintain and provide guidance on global work sharing with plant design software
  • Analyze software issues, suggest workarounds where possible, and report bugs to software vendors when appropriate
  • Support multiple complex projects
  • Support project turnover
  • Work with project SMEs to provide training on new tools
  • Interact with clients for project turnover
  • Identify and direct new training opportunities to improve project execution
  • Coordinate training and support across multiple offices
  • Typically works on projects with multiple engineering disciplines, tool sets and multiple business lines

Software Administration:

  • Configuration and customization for all engineering disciplines including but not limited to:
    • Data Field additions and changes
    • Complex deliverable modifications
    • Report customization and new report creation
    • Equipment tag format changes
    • Border changes
    • Establish and maintain standard library of CAD symbols, macros and templates
  • Owns new Project setup and maintenance
  • Responsible for setup and maintenance of user accounts
  • Interfaces design tools with additional related software products
  • Plans and implements software upgrade to minimize impact on project execution
  • Tests new commercial software releases
  • Continues expanding knowledge to multiple tools across a suite of tools
  • Develops knowledge of multiple commercial design tools
  • Continues expanding knowledge to multiple Black and Veatch technologies and/or business lines

Processes and Standards:

  • Reviews and provides feedback to process owners on changes required due to new plant design software
  • Suggests improvements to processes/standards based on use of commercial plant design software
  • Reviews and suggests improvements to processes, standards, and guides based on an depth knowledge of multiple design tools
  • Provides input to existing and new process spanning multiple disciplines or multiple tool sets

System Configuration:

  • Works with Black and Veatch's 3rd party software vendors to setup, maintain, and upgrade databases, networks and servers to support commercial plant design software
  • Reviews and suggests relational database changes to improve functionality of plant design system
  • Oversee basic system / network improvements
  • Performs complex analysis of systems to preemptively identify issues

People Management:

  • As a manager, provides direction to a group of design technologists
  • Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development
  • May participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning

Minimum Qualifications

Typically a minimum of 8 plus years related work experience.
