About the role:

Autonomy systems engineers use systematic analysis and empirical methods to evaluate autonomous driving sub-system behavior and performance to develop metrics and requirements that guide AV stack development.

We also define sub-system interfaces and clarify inter-module interactions, contributing to our robust system architecture and streamlined system integration.

What you will work on:

  • As a perception-oriented autonomy systems engineer, you will develop methods and metrics for evaluating our Perception pipeline.  You will work across teams
    • to evaluate current perception performance,
    • identify performance gaps,
    • propose and analyze tradeoffs between potential improvements , and
    • derive performance requirements, enabling our autonomous vehicle to meet its performance, comfort, and safety goals.
  • You will drive clarity and stabilization of the architecture of the perception sub-system and its interdependency with the rest of the AV sub-systems (including software components and hardware resource constraints). You contribute to streamlined system integration through effective cross team communication about these system interdependencies, interfaces, and constraints, as well as their implications on implementation, testing, and integration.
  • You will become comfortable with our development tools to perform hands-on analyses to identify issues and/or weaknesses in our system, and recommend potential solutions. If interested, you will take part in implementing those solutions.

Minimum requirement on Education and experience

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics,  physics, or a related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in owning the technical responsibility over a complex system or subsystem (preferably in the software domain)
  • Or BS in Engineering with 4 years of experience

Skills required:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for learning and applying new technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills; effective in communicating complex concepts and in engaging cross teams and driving resolutions.
  • Proficient in python, C, or C++.
  • Passion for robotics applications and autonomous driving systems

Bonus points:

  • Experience in robotic systems, autonomous systems, and/or Artificial Intelligence
  • Experience in high performance computing systems
  • Experience with UML, simulation tools
  • Experience with professional software development
