IT Internship: Data Analytics, Visualization and Reporting for Hardware Development

Introduction

The ASML IT R&D Hardware Engineering department supports the ASML R&D teams that are working on the development of current and future machine components which are part of the Lithography, Metrology and other tools that ASML sells to the leading chipmakers in the world. These machines are extremely complex and require nanometer precision to properly function. Our IT teams support this development by providing a set of Engineering Simulation IT services including application support, HPC, Virtual Workplaces and a set of monitoring, automation and data analytics &reporting services. This is a set of fast evolving, leading edge technology services where we use innovative technologies to create and support these IT services.  We work according to Agile principles and have also adopted the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Our R&D colleagues are very demanding on what they need when to support the fast paced development cycles that are planned for our current and new machines.

Background information

Are you curious how Data Analytics and Reporting help create contribute to the success of a large enterprise and high-tech company? Our DevOps team provides services that support the R&D Simulation Engineers in their daily work, which includes application support on products like Ansys, MATLAB, StarCCM, Comsol. We use Splunk and PowerBI to correlate and visualize insights from data created by our licensing platform, the usage of IT services and the use of applications. The team has created a set of visualizations on multiple platforms like Splunk and PowerBI and now requires a re-evaluation of what we should provide where and how, including an assessment on security and compliance of the data and its access management. We are also still working on creating additional dashboards and reports where we have challenges on collecting and correlating data sets. 

During your internship with us, your primary goal will be to help create an up-to-date inventory of data and reports & dashboards including their use cases and assessment of access management, security & compliance. You will be able/asked to modify/update report and dashboards with guidance from the report/dashboard owner. You will help in migrating where needed dashboards & reports to a different instance of a platform or a different platform. You will be able/asked to cooperate on the creation of new reports & dashboards. You will be able/asked to help in migrating the code behind these services to a CI/CD based workflow including repositories, code testing and verification, version control and release management of the code. 

Your profile

To be a perfect match for this internship, you:

• Are in Bachelor in IT Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or Information Management.

• Preferably knowledge of (or the willingness to learn about) data analytics platforms like Splunk or PowerBI.

• Coding skills in Python are also a pre.

Personal skills

• Good English speaker / reader, our team is comprised of a set of people from around the globe, including people working on both the east and west coast of the USA. All of the teams communication and documentation is in English.

• A proactive and independent nature is expected as you will be asked to define and develop your own work, under guidance and with help of your mentor and the rest of the team.

• We're looking for someone eager to learn and adopt quickly, our team works in an Agile, Sprint based structure.

This internship is for 3-5 days, duration of months 4+ months. The start date of this assignment is June/July, 2024.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
