The role can be based at the company headquarters in Cambridge, MA or in Ghent, Belgium

As a Senior Computational Biologist, you will …

  • Utilize modeling and network-based approaches to integrate multiple omics data types to identify and prioritize trait-associated genes, pathways, and regulatory elements for target identification and validation.
  • Provide scientific direction, set strategies and lead complex systems biology-based initiatives for target/variant discovery.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including molecular biologists, computational biologists, and machine learning experts to translate computational findings into actionable insights for trait discovery and crop improvement.
  • Maintain strong awareness of novel methods from the literature and demonstrate strategic thinking and leadership in identifying new computational methods and technologies for target identification and prioritization.
  • Present results to internal and external scientists through talks, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and conference presentations
  • Manage junior level scientists.

You bring…

  • Ph.D. or equivalent with 5 or more years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, plant breeding, genetics or related quantitative field.
  • Experience with novel transcriptomics and other omics-based technologies and proficiency in relevant bioinformatics tools and software packages.
  • Strong background in network analysis, systems biology, and computational modeling, with expertise in integrating multi-omics datasets and constructing gene regulatory networks.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics and computational biology (e.g., R, Python) and experience with high-performance computing and cloud environments.
  • A track record of independent research, which includes a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or experience leading projects or teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds and contribute to a dynamic and innovative research environment.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning.
  • Creative and strategic thinking, good problem-solving skills, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failures
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure efficiency in planning and execution.

Bonus qualifications…
