Job Description

Apex is currently seeking an Environmental Summer Associate to conduct research to derive the conservation benefits, ecosystem services, and potential economic value of the Apex Conservation Grant (ACG) program conservation project activities completed to date. We hire Summer Associates that are passionate about clean energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify biodiversity and ecosystem service metrics and indices specific to Apex conservation projects
  • Conduct analysis of UNSDG framework and TNFD guidelines (and other related frameworks) and their applicability to corporate conservation projects
  • Explore emerging technical tools (e.g., AI) and services that could help to quantify and communicate the impact of conservation projects
  • Research ways in which conservation projects may qualify for carbon credits
  • Create a report that summarizes the information in a clear and concise manner

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental economics, sustainability, environmental studies, or related field with an outstanding academic record
  • Self-starter and team player with a passion for conservation
  • Highly attentive and detail oriented
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint), experience with Smartsheet is a plus
  • Ability to absorb, digest and articulate fairly complex information
  • Course work or experience relating to sustainable development is ideal

Additional Information

  • The summer associate program will run from June 3 through August 9 but we can be flexible with the start and end dates
  • Hours: Full Time 
  • Type:  Non-Exempt
  • Paid Internship: Undergraduate, $17/Hour; Graduate, $27/Hour
  • Office Location: Our Charlottesville, VA headquarters or Remote
