Job Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Data Scientist to join the Canadian Advanced Analytics team. As a Data Scientist, you will help develop and implement robust analytical solutions for various business segments of Manulife, applying both traditional and emerging machine learning and AI techniques. Your work in these areas will play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision-making and improving our business processes!

Responsibilities

  •  Develop and implement machine learning models to tackle sophisticated business problems, using a variety of algorithms and techniques.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to identify and define business requirements, ensuring alignment with data science objectives.
  • Leads, develops, runs, and delivers projects of diverse scope.
  • Consults with internal business leaders, finds opportunities/challenges, and brings analytics driven insights/solutions to tackle business problems.
  • Helps determine advanced analytics priorities and sequencing of projects to optimize business goals.  Works closely with business leaders in change management as an outcome of model delivery.
  • Codifies processes/techniques/tools into standard methodologies for other data scientists. Coordinates the work of more junior data scientists.  Participates in code and model review of other data scientists.
  • Provides thought leadership including researching new analytics methodologies, tools, and data
  • Influence business partners to contribute to and adopt insights from analytics work
  • Innovates and finds creative ways to source data to support modeling efforts, using structured and unstructured data

What we are looking for

  • An advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or other quantitative field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience solving high impact business problems using data science
  • Experience leading initiatives across the entire advanced analytics lifecycle from business problem through to deployment
  • Practical experience with big data processing frameworks, and platforms such as Azure, Databricks, Spark, Hive, PCF
  • Excellent communication skills – able to translate sophisticated data science concepts to technical and non-technical partners. Proficient storyteller able to galvanize others to act.
  • Agile problem solver with a bias for action, able to remove roadblocks fast.
  • Track record of implementing models into production with business value.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
