About This Role:

Axsome Therapeutics is seeking a Data Engineer to oversee the operations of Axsome’s Data Lake House. This role will work with clients to gather data analytics requirements, pipeline formation, and optimize datasets. Clients will be a mix of internal and external clients spanning across all Axsome business functions. Additionally, the Data Engineer will work on machine learning, data governance, security, integrity, and standardization.

The Data Engineer will focus on promoting operational efficiency and satisfying any compliance requirements while meeting customer/client needs. Additional duties may also involve building dashboards over various data visualization software as preferred by the client.  This position will report to the Director, Data Solutions.

This role is based at Axsome’s HQ in New York City with an on-site requirement of at least three days per week. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles.  

Job Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain a high familiarity and proficiency with Amazon Web Services tools primarily focused on data pipeline, data warehousing, machine learning, data visualization, security and governance 
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines within our Amazon Web Services infrastructure  
  • Data transformation and data wrangling per specific analytical requirements
  • Ability to create AWS Lambda and helper functions to help orchestrate complex workflows
  • Advise internal clients and external partners on analytical solutions and operational datasets based upon clients’ requirements
  • Provisioning of data solutions in alignment with the overall data architectural landscape and maintains synergies within the ecosystem to centralize control, contain costs, reduce complexity, and decrease overall workload
  • Upholding security and governance with ongoing data operations and future expansions of the infrastructure
  • Apply Algorithm development to data structures and potentially mathematical models
  • Respond to and triage ad hoc requests including analytics throughout the organization  

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics  
  • Experience in applied programming and/or mathematics OR completion of a coding bootcamp from a reputable provider 
  • Prior experience using nested loop functions and mathematical logic on matrices  
  • At least 2-4 years of data engineering experience desired  
  • Experience using Python/PySpark and SQL programming in various settings 
  • Ability to work on site Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles. 

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience with event sequence analysis
  • Knowledge of tracking entities in data with unique identifiers across a multi-dimensional domain
  • Familiarity applying pattern recognition algorithms on panel data
  • Experience with mathematical programming focused on vector calculus, differential equations, computational neuroscience, and computational fluid dynamics.
  • Operational experience in multi-variate statistical modeling for comparative analysis across population groups, time dimensions, sequence of events, or promotional activities (i.e. market mix modeling)
  • Prior pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience in:
    • Market Access and the medical insurance industry
    • Biostatistics and/or Health Economics
    • Market Mix Modeling
  • Experience in stochastic programming for the optimization of resources through a range of situational probabilities and environmental constraints 

Salary and Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this role is $95,000 - $115,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location. Axsome offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, significant equity and a generous benefits package.
