The AWS HR Engineering and Science team is actively engaged in the ongoing data engineering process, partnering with development groups and providing deep subject matter expertise input as stakeholders to design reviews, and as an advocate for bringing forward and resolving customer issues. In this role you act as the “Voice of the Customer” helping solve complex problems and assisting how partners to use our databases.
You should be comfortable in design and development of solutions using Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark on or off AWS. This position requires hands-on software development expertise used to ingest and process large scale datasets. He/she is proficient in at least one programming language. He/she should be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big (while paying careful attention to detail), excellent communication skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced and global team.

Basic Qualifications


A desire to work in a collaborative, intellectually curious environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
3+ years working in relational database concepts with a solid knowledge of star schema, Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Tuning, OLAP, Big Data technologies
3+ Years of experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
Design, implement, and support a platform providing secured access to large datasets.
Demonstrated expertise in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing.
Practical Knowledge of java scripting or java
Experience in maintaining data warehouse systems and working on large scale data transformation
Proven analytical and quantitative ability and a passion for enabling customers to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, develop business cases, and complete root cause analyses
Experience with Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Pig, Spark, etc.)
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to effectively lead and influence interactions with both business and technical team


Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics or related discipline
Experience with Java and experience with scripting languages like Javascript or Perl and Unix shell scripts
