Job Description

The Clinical Data Specialist I analyze medical records, extracts clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic data in accordance with established ICD-10 and CPT 4 coding principles and guidelines.  Ensures that data is optimally coded for research purposes, financial reimbursement, planning, statistics, and regulatory reporting. Communicates directly with HIM Compliance to ensure that clinical documentation is coded timely, accurately and in compliance with CMS and AHA guidelines and national correct coding initiatives.

 

You Are:

 

  • An outpatient medical coder with at least 2 years of coding experience, and knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT 4.
  • Familiar with an automated health care environment.
  • Diligent, able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality of medical records.

You Will:

  • Analyze medical records, extracting clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic data in accordance with established ICD-10-CM and CPT 4 coding principles and guidelines.
  • Ensure that data is efficiently coded for research purposes, financial reimbursement, planning, statistics, and regulatory reporting.
  • Interact with Coding Staff and HIM Compliance ensure that clinical documentation is coded timely, accurately, and in compliance with CMS guidelines and national accurate coding initiatives.

You Need:

  • Good computer, verbal, and written communication skills required.
  • AHIMA or AAPC Certified  
  • Experience in an automated healthcare environment required (e.g., electronic medical records, encoder, 360 encompass, email communication).
  • Strong analytical skills in identifying and assigning ICD-10 CM and CPT -4 coding per established guidelines required.
  • 2 years or more of coding experience at a University Hospital or Cancer Center
