The Role

A Senior Data Engineer and Analyst designs and leads the implementation of data pipelines which connect operational systems to analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems.

The Data Engineering team forms part of the Data Engineering and Architecture area within the Centre of Excellence for Data and Analytics at AIB.

Our Data Engineering Team develops data pipelines on behalf of Business Stakeholders within a complex IT and data infrastructure.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the successful candidate to expand the team’s ability to deliver data products in a best in class infrastructure where data and analytical tooling integrate deeply.

 

 

At this level, you will:

  • Lead the build of ETL pipelines into, through and out of the Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Recognise opportunities to re-use existing data flows where appropriate.
  • Develop and Deploy robust, scalable and supportable solutions
  • Be first point of contact and provide Technical Leadership to a Squad of Data Engineers
  • Be a people leader and support personal and career development of direct reports
  • Engage with stakeholders and ensure tasks are prioritised in line with the ExCo Priorities

 

Skills needed for this role

  • Communication skills. You know how to communicate to and between technical and non-technical stakeholders as well as facilitate discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics. You can advocate for the team externally. You know how to manage different perspectives.
  • Data analysis and synthesis. You know how to undertake data profiling and source system analysis and can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data.
  • Data development process. You can design, build and test data products that are complex or large-scale. You know how to build teams to complete data integration services.
  • Data integration design. You know how to select and implement the appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future-proofed data solutions.
  • Metadata management. You can design an appropriate metadata repository and present changes to existing metadata repositories. You understand a range of tools for storing and working with metadata. You can provide oversight and advice to more inexperienced members of the team.
  • Problem resolution. You know how to respond to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. You can initiate actions, monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems. You can determine the appropriate remedy and assist with implementation of it as well as preventative measures.
  • Programming and build. You know how to use agreed standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document moderate-to-complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications and subsequent iterations. You can collaborate with others to review specifications where appropriate.
  • Technical understanding. You understand core technical concepts related to the role and can apply them with guidance.
  • Testing. You can review requirements, specifications and define test conditions. You can identify issues and risks associated with work while being able to analyse and report test activities and results.

 

You will need to show us that you can/have:

  1. Minimum of bachelor degree in a discipline incorporating: information management related disciplines or quantitative analytical techniques, e.g., Software Engineering, Data and Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics;
  2. 5+ years’ experience as a data analyst or software developer in a relevant area, with knowledge of the software development lifecycle and IT change management, a strong  understanding of Banking is a plus
  3. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with expertise and knowledge of data integration technologies.
  4. Extensive database experience preferably on Teradata or other Databases (Oracle, DB2, Hive, Impala, Kudu, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra).
  5. Experience in managing complex scheduled batch processes within an Enterprise Scheduler
  6. Knowledge of the data quality challenges and impacts financial services organisations face and of solutions to sustainably address these 
  7. Awareness of relevant financial services regulations such as BCBS, FATCA etc.
  8. Strong communication skills with a proven track record of articulating complex concepts/results in simple language;
  9. Experience of leading junior team members;
  10. Familiarity with Agile Delivery Methodology advantageous
