To meet the aim of decarbonising the heavy haulage industry First Mode is looking for a talented Data Engineer to help deliver a suite of Data and Insights products to be used both by First Mode internally, as well as our customers.

These Data and Insights products include, but are not limited to:

• Analysing microbatch data in a cloud environment within a siloed multi-tenancy design to produce short, medium and long-term data products for Customer and First Mode consumption.

• Acquisition of data from First Mode internal systems, including, manufacturing and engineering test beds to support the life-of-asset understanding of our products

Position Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical lead within our data and insights team, owning delivery end-to-end throughout the product life cycle, collaborating with other data engineers towards function objectives.
• Mentor team members in engineering best practices via coaching and design/code review
• Drive operational excellence by delivering high quality software products via automated testing and tooling.
• Represent the team as a stakeholder within the scope of multi-disciplinary engineering developments, from system formulation through design, build and test.

Basic Qualifications

• Strong experience with a demonstrated track-record of developing data platform systems in an AWS environment.
• Experience in some of the following languages: Python, SQL, Spark/Java, C#
• Experience developing data pipelines using common tools such as: DBT, Databricks, Snowflake
• Experience with data modelling for different storage types (relational, document, columnar), including common data warehousing methodologies (Kimball, Data Vault etc.)
• Experience with one or more of the following database technologies: Postgres (or other SQL database), Snowflake, AWS Athena (or Trino)
• Experience with common Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation)
• Experience working in an agile start-up environment
• A demonstrated ability to work with engineers of different disciplines to meet a shared objective

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience delivering a multi-tenanted B2B SaaS software product
• Experience working in a Data Mesh architectural style
• Experience with common cybersecurity processes/methodologies
• Experience delivering data platforms in a mining environment

Location

• This position will be located at First Mode’s office in Perth, WA
