Lead Data Scientist

Salary up to £45,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our high-profile data science team. We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to help craft the future of Commercial Lines insurance at Aviva through innovative data science.

The UK team is recognised as a centre of excellence in our Global Data Science Practice – providing new data-driven insights that strengthen decision making across the Aviva Group.

A bit about the job:

This is a substantial role in the execution of the Aviva Data Science Strategy, helping to drive data led innovation to improve our brokers experience and economics of our commercial business lines. We partner to transform Commercial Lines performance, providing insights to identify, optimise and automate opportunities.

We are looking for someone who is confident to understand the business’s problems and how they can be solved through data science and new user journeys. Experience of developing interactive applications, applying sophisticated techniques, and leveraging technology to all stages of the data science process is essential.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Highly numerate and educated to degree or postgraduate (MSc) in a relevant field, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.

  • Programming knowledge and a skill for coding using: R, Python or SQL, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialists and bring solutions to life with developed user-friendly applications ie. R Shiny

  • You will have experience at each process within data science, problem definition, data acquisition & wrangling, analysis, modelling, and delivery/deployment.

  • You will have experience in project planning and stakeholder management, with the ability to represent data science in strategy conversations and maximise deliverables.

  • Experience of the GI insurance industry is advantageous, but not mandatory.

  • Starting salary up to £45,000 (depending on skills, experience, and qualifications)
