Federal Reserve Bank of AtlantaThe Atlanta Fed’s Community and Economic Development (CED) program seeks a Senior CED Research Analyst or Quantitative Research Analyst Specialist to support its rigorous applied research program.As an employee of the Atlanta Fed, you will help support our mission of promoting the stability and efficiency of the U.S. economy and financial system. The CED program supports the Central Bank’s monetary policy and bank supervisory functions and fosters economic mobility and resilience among low- and moderate-income communities in the Southeast. We do this by conducting research and creating data tools, engaging stakeholders, and tracking and elevating issues facing the Southeast’s lower-income residents.
Position Summary
The position will support researchers and subject matter experts studying workforce development, affordable housing, the social safety net, and other topics within the Bank’s Community and Economic Development Department (CED). The position has two main areas of focus:
- This position will research public assistance and tax policies in states across the country and then translate those policies into code. As part of this area of focus, the position is responsible for maintaining and improving the Atlanta Fed’s Policy Rules Database (PRD) and the accompanying data visualization tool, the PRD Dashboard. The PRD is a public repository that allows for research on public assistance programs and tax policies; it also supports tools that calculate public assistance loss for individuals advancing in their careers, such as the Atlanta Fed’s CLIFF tools.
- This position will also provide research support, including descriptive data analysis and methodological consultation to analysts and researchers, create and maintain other CED data tools and visualizations, and execute research projects in support of senior CED researchers. The position requires the ability to collaborate with staff across multiple Atlanta Fed departments, including CED researchers and staff research economists.
Key Responsibilities
- This position will serve on a dynamic team focused on the intersection of research and practice for the identification of barriers and solutions to economic mobility.
- Work with Atlanta Fed economists and CED researchers to enhance the value of the PRD for researchers and practitioners.
- Conduct applied research: collect and analyze data, maintain research databases, help produce original research reports on topics relevant to community and economic development;
- Collaborate with other Department or Bank staff, colleagues in other Reserve Banks, external community development leaders, and academics to produce research and coordinate events; and assist in preparation of presentation materials.
Education
- An advanced degree in economics, finance, public policy, public administration, city planning, urban studies, computer science, data science or a community or economic development related field is preferred.
Experience
- 2 - 5+ years experience.
- Knowledge or experience working with public assistance programs and/or the U.S. tax system, experience with coding languages other than R, past work on database management, and research experience are a plus.
