Advanced Analytics solutions play a key role in supporting Vanguard's Investment Management strategies. In this role, you will be working as a data scientist aligned to technology deployment that supports the growth of solutions directly influencing Vanguard's Investment Management strategies for our business teams.

You will be part of a high-profile Al R&D team enabling creative and impactful solutions across Quant, Fixed Income, Risk Management, Investment Strategy, Finance, and more. You will be part of a diverse group which applies Deep Learning, convex optimization, game theory, and much more, to production solutions across these investment teams and beyond. This opportunity is very exciting, very dynamic, and very rewarding for the analytics practitioner looking to develop custom model architecture for operational use. Our team provides a one-of-a-kind front row seat to solving the biggest, most sophisticated Investment analytics challenges at Vanguard.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develops queries and performs extensive programming to access, transform, and prepare data for statistical modeling.

  • Performs deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making.

  • Identifies and diagnoses data inconsistencies and errors, documents data assumptions, and forages to fill data gaps.

  • Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processes in order to develop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach.

  • Guides test design, research design, and model validation. Provides statistical consultation services. Serves as the analytics expert on cross functional teams for large strategic initiatives and contributes to the growth of the Vanguard analytic community.

  • Prepares and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business partners.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What it takes:

  • Minimum of three years related work experience in analytical roles, experience with data wrangling required.

  • Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for statistical modeling. Experience utilizing statistical and machine learning methods.

  • Undergraduate degree in Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related analytical field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Significant experience in research regarding ML and other modeling paradigms.

  • Experience building custom deep learning architectures to address specific problem statements.

  • Comfortable and autonomous within research and production(support) workflows.

  • Proficient with python and associated ML frameworks/libraries.

  • Familiarity with research code management and best practices.

  • Able to refine clean, maintainable, production-ready code, and interact with code created by other researchers

  • Undergraduate degree in related STEM field(s) with Modeling work required

  • Strong coursework in mathematics, information theory, and other topics related to theoretical reasoning in ML

What sets you apart:

  • Familiarity with Investment Management related data and tasks.

  • Participation or completion of the CFA or related financial knowledge.

  • Knowledge of or experience with mathematical optimization techniques such as Markowitz, mixed-integer, etc.

  • Graduate Degree or equivalent industrial experience in applied modeling workflows.
