About the opportunity:

Sony AI is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated individual with expertise in Machine Learning and numerical optimization research. We’re currently looking for brilliant, enthusiastic people who want to join our team of world-renowned researchers as we push the boundaries of applying AI in support of human creativity. In this role, the successful candidate will contribute to our groundbreaking flagship project in AI for Chip Design. The role can be located either in Zurich, Tokyo, or the US.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement fast, efficient and ground-breaking Machine Learning algorithms addressing hardware design. Focus on the generalization of the created methods
  • Understand and shape informative data structures for the storage for scientific computing.
  • Propose and develop relevant performance metrics and identify limitations of the models.
  • Develop code, test and benchmark frameworks to support research, usually in Python and/or C++
  • Interface the data tooling pipeline with the application software environment as well as multiple codebases/repositories
  • Write reports and give presentations for internal audiences. Publish papers in top-tier venues
  • Work closely with a team of AI researchers and engineers in the US, Switzerland, and Japan on ambitious AI projects

You will have:

  • Passion to develop innovative AI technology and deploy it through a multi-stakeholder approach
  • Background in Machine Learning (PhD) or Computational Physics and relevant work experience with a track record of developing high-performance scientific software systems.
  • 2 or more years of work experience (with programming) after the degree are a plus
  • Excellent publication track record in fields such as Machine Learning for optimization, partial differential equations are a plus
  • Solid programming skills using Python, as well as frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Practical knowledge of Unix, Linux, Package Management Systems, Databases
  • Experience with infrastructure and tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD frameworks, benchmarking platforms, and unit testing is a plus
  • Accomplished projects with existing cloud solutions such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud are a plus
  • Excellent oral and written English
